Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival, March 28-30, 2008
Carlmont Village Shopping Center plays host to more than 25
artists during the Sidewalk Fine Arts Festival Friday through
Sunday, March 28-30, 2008. The free event, which runs from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, will give visitors the opportunity to
shop for unique and intriguing artwork ranging from paintings,
photography, ceramics, fine jewelry, woodwork and much more.
Among this year’s artists is Mendy Marks of San Francisco who
creates handmade jewelry. Mendy’s jewelry is influenced by the
many levels and colors in landscapes. Using anodized aluminum,
sterling silver, gold, copper, and brass she layers shapes,
colors and textures in her jewelry to create sensual, sculptural
earrings, pins, and necklaces. Some elements are patinated, or
heat-treated, to give them a more aged, natural look. She then
accents the pieces with freshwater pearls and beads made of
gemstones and minerals.
Nancy Eckels of Canyon Country, California paints abstract
paintings with uninhibited use of color and plenty of depth and
texture. She uses acrylic paint, acrylic ink, collage, and
various other materials depending on the painting. Some of her
pieces are done on paper and others on canvas, and the size
ranges from small to large, depending on her mood and customer
requests.
Neal Geisler of Jackson , California , creates one of a kind,
solid wood art using a combination of old world hand tools and
modern power tools. “I sometimes revert to older methods and
techniques in order to achieve my goals in the finished
product,” says Neal. Using a variety of woods that include
tropical, exotic and older specimens, all of his creations are
cataloged with a serial number that includes information on the
genus and species of the wood used. “When you purchase a Sierra
Craft piece, I want you to know what you are getting and that it
is special, not only to you, but it was special to me first,”
adds Neal. “I give you my best!”
Additional artists participating in the Sidewalk Fine Arts
Festival include Delia Bradford of Carmel displaying her oil
paintings of California scenery; Robert Wunce of Santa Cruz
featuring his custom-designed handcrafted silver and gemstone
jewelry; Jeffrey Murray of Long Barn with his photography that
features landscapes, nature and wildlife; and Jeffrey Nelson and
Hans Schwyter of Ossining, New York showcasing their marquetry.
The Festival is sponsored by the Carlmont Village Merchant
Association. Carlmont Village Shopping Center is located on
Ralston Avenue at Alameda de las Pulgas. For more information on
the event, contact Pacific Fine Arts at (209) 296-1195
