IMPERIAL BEACH -
Over 300,000 people hit the beaches of San Diego County's
Imperial Beach "IB" for an event guaranteed to put a little sand
between your toes and spark a smile as you gaze at master
sandcastle builders pit it out for top prize in a $21,000 purse
of awards. Why the fuss about sand? Sculptors create some
amazing creations that range from small cities to fantasy
creatures in intricate settings. Not only can the public
participate in events such a street festival that begins on
Saturday along Seacoast Drive. Closed to traffic for the day,
vendor booths, games, foods, and top entertainment with bands
and great music, the first Sandcastle event of the weekend is
held Saturday afternoon. Called Kids-N-Kastles
