FEATURED EVENT:
WEAVERVILLE - WINE TASTING
EVENT FOR WEAVERVILLE GATEWAYS
Six Trinity County wineries will be pouring their premium wines
to support the Weaverville Gateway Project on Sunday, January
13, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m. at LaGrange Cafe , in Weaverville.
The Weaverville gateway monuments are a component of the
Weaverville Revitalization Plan. The monuments consists of a
flat steel banner 10 feet high and 16 feet wide over a large
granite rock (approximately 7’wide by 5’ high). At each end of
the banner are fir trees cut out of steel plate. The two taller
metal trees are 11 feet and 12 feet tall and the shorter tree is
7 feet tall. In front of the rock at the east end of town will
be a mining monitor, which is symbolic of Weaverville’s historic
gold rush era.
The purpose of the Gateway Monuments is to convey the unique
image of Weaverville and encourage motorist to stop and enjoy
the historic town; and to function as a traffic calming device
by alerting motorist that they are entering town. Weaverville
recently received national recognition as a “Preserve America”
community. It is one of only fifteen in the State of California
and one of twenty-nine in the nation to receive recognition by
way of a grant. The purpose of this national program is to
support community efforts of creating economic and educational
opportunities through the preservation and promotion of historic
and cultural resources. The Gateway Monuments Project was
awarded $1,500 for lighting of the monuments, but funding for
the construction and erection of the monuments is from local
contributions and community fund raisers.
Donation of $17.50 presale ($20.00 at the door), includes wine
tasting from six wineries, hors d’oeuvres, and a commemorative
wine glass. Tickets are available at Mama Llamas, Main Street
Gallery, Imaginations, LaGrange Cafe, Dragonfly Outfitters, and
Zion Natural Foods in Hafork. Call David Hammer at (530) 623
