FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Kids Fishing Derby.
Annual Free Kids Fishing Derby at Mile Square Regional Park in
Fountain Valley makes every kid a winner in a contest sponsored
by the County of Orange, Harbors, Beaches and Parks (HBP).
The lucky angler who catches the largest trout will win a prize
package worth more than $500. There are three age divisions in
the derby, including seven and under; eight to 11 and 12 to 15.
Registration begins at 7 am. The derby runs from 9 a.m. to noon
followed by the awards ceremony. California Department of Fish
and Game’s Fishing in the City Program assists with the event.
Volunteers offer help to kids and they also provide California
fishing regulations and marine education. They will have a
limited amount of loaner rod and reels available for young
anglers. Parents must provide proper identification for loaner
rods to be issued for their child. Mile Square Regional Park's
South Lake was stocked December 24, 2007 with 600 pounds of
trout. The South Lake is located at Warner Avenue and Euclid
Street. A California fishing license required for anglers 16
years or older and California Fish and Game fishing rules apply

ANDERSON - Love Your
Pet Expo. Love Your Pet Expo is a Play Day for Animals and Their
2-Legged Friends. The event starts with a pet parade led by the
Anderson High School flag team. 3,000 pet people are expected to
join the festivities this year, with many of them marching with
their costumed critters in the Welcome Parade, starting at 9:30
AM. Lassen Hall's Natural Balance/Petco Pavillion will
include Rally Obedience, Flyball, and Agility. Prizes for
"Smartest Dog" competition, vendors, exhibits, door prizes,
giveaways, literature, and demonstrations such as doggie
dancing, search and rescue, and animal massage techniques.
Anderson High School jazz band will perform and there will also
be a kids' craft workshop for easy-to-make pet toys, handouts,
and coloring pages to take home. The barn will boast llamas,
miniature donkeys, and more. Food vendors will offer sandwiches,
teriyaki bowls, and smoothies, plus other snacks and beverages.
