CALIFORNIA - Grunion Run in Southern California. Fishing license required for 16 and older. Best beaches span from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Approx. time for Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. See link for other guidelines and beach times  10:20 p.m. - 12:20 a.m. dfg.ca.gov

CAPITOLA - Begonia Festival. 56th Annual Nautical Parade includes begonia covered barges floating down Soquel Creek to the Lagoon. Great views from the Stockton Bridge, Cliff Avenue and Wharf Road. Other events during the day include Horseshoes on the Sand 8 AM - Finish Capitola Beach in front of the Venetian Hotel. Float Construction Viewing all day, Chalk Art on the Seawall 9 AM - Noon at the seawall on the Esplanade. Begonias to go, Head to Toe! 11 AM - Noon In Esplanade Park. Become a part of the Festival! Create and design a festive hat for the occasion! Bring your own hat, begonias are free. Concert in the Park 4 - 6 PM. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Civil War Re-enactment and Encampment. The public is invited to enjoy the days gone by in the living history show in Huntington Central Park complete with Abe Lincoln. Live canon battles, camps, actors in costume and food vendors. Schedule: Saturday, Sept. 1 - 10 a.m. opens, 1:30 p.m. battle; living history weapons demo at 2:30 p.m., final battle at 4 p.m., twilight concert to follow. Sunday, Sept. 2 - Church service at 8 a.m., camp opens at 9 a.m., first battle at 11 a.m., weapons demo at Noon, 2nd battle at 2 p.m.  Call Kelly at (714) 969-8928
HUNTINGTON BEACH - Jazz Ensemble. Concerts in the Park invites you to bring a picnic basket and settle in for a shady evening of free entertainment under the eucalyptus groves of Huntington Beach's Central Park. Time: 5 p.m. Cost: Free. Location: 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach, CA.

LAGUNA BEACH -  Sawdust Festival. Sawdust Art Festival features over 175 artists and creators with original, handcrafted gift items that include: hand blown glass, ceramics, clothing, ornaments, jewelry, painting, sculpture and so much more. Admission includes complimentary art project for all ages, entertainment, 3 outdoor caf├ęs and artist demonstrations including glass blowing. LONG BEACH - Long Beach Blues Festival. The 2008 Long Beach Blues Festival features blues, soul singers, Orleans legends and Little Richard. Location: Athletic Field of Cal State University Long Beach, 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90840. Hours: 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Cost: approx. $50/day; $80/2 day pass. jazzandblues.org

LOS ANGELES - Nike World's Biggest One Day Running Event. Includes a grand finale in the Coliseum with Kayne West Concert. Run locations span the globe, while the L.A. event takes to the streets of downtown L.A.

LOS ANGELES - African Marketplace & Cultural Faire. Events include jazz, r&b and top music concert acts, literary presentations, vendors selling unique gifts and foods, and an entire fun zone for kids. The event also runs on September 1. DUNSMUIR - Mossbrae Music Festival. Botanical Gardens Stage in Dunsmuir City Park, Dunsmuir, CA. Festival begins at 2:30 pm. All-ages. $15 in advance or $20 day of concert. $10 ages 5-17. www.positiveproductions.net

MAMMOTH LAKES - Annual Labor Day Festival of the Arts at Mammoth Lakes presented by by Mono Council for the Arts  More than 100 fine artists and contemporary crafts people gather in scenic outdoors for event that offers family fun, food and live entertainment, Times: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. SAUSALITO - Sausalito Art Festival. Sausalito Art Festival, America's #1 Outdoor Fine Art Festival, launches its 55th annual event over the Labor Day weekend with artists from around the world at Marinship Park on Sausalito's picturesque waterfront.
