Saturday, November 24, 2007 Events in California in early November offer concerts, festivals and tours celebrating the cultural heritage and history of California.

 

Happy Holidays! Do you have you running shoes on? It's the "day after" and the day that shopping begins for Christmas gifts.  Massive crowds hit the malls, online catalogues and other shopping options. Be good to yourself and take a gondola ride (they are available in Coronado, Newport Beach, Sunset Beach, Long Beach, and Lake Merritt Oakland).

CORONADO - Skating by The Sea. Three-hour skating sessions will be offered daily from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 9 pm. A special matinee skating sessions from 11 am to 1 pm will occur on weekends and holidays. 3-hour session: $20/adults; $15/ages 10 years and under; 2-hour matinee session $15/adult; $10/ages 10 years and under. EUREKA - Craftsman's Days at the Blue Ox Millworks Historic Park & School. Living history demonstrations in the traditional arts including blacksmithing, woodworking and spinning, plus live music and home-style cooking offer opportunities for the whole family. FAIRFIELD -  Jelly Belly Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a winter wonderland comes to life when Santa and friends turn on the lights of the tree at the Jelly Belly Visitor Center followed by musical performance and sing-along Entertainment and candy factory tours. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Holiday Jazz  Concert - A Peter White Christmas featuring Rick Braun & Mindi Abair an exclusive performance in the Los Angeles & Orange County area  also includes saxophonist, Jackiem Joyner. LAGUNA BEACH -  Sawdust Winter Fantasy 2007 Festival. Sawdust Winter Fantasy Festival features over 175 artists and creators with original, handcrafted gift items that include: hand blown glass, ceramics, clothing, ornaments, jewelry, painting, sculpture and so much more. MALIBU - Nutcracker Ballet . Westside Ballet is one of the longest running Nutcracker Ballet productions in California. Performance time: 2 and 7:30 pm. SAN JOSE - Downtown Ice skating rink is open through 1/13/08 in the stately-palm court and features over 8,000 square feet of ice in an arena and circular outer rink. Time: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. weeknights; Noon to Midnight on weekends; Special holiday hours, subject to change...call to confirm. Cost: $12-$14. Skate all you want first-come, first-serve. SAN JOSE - San Jose Harvest Festival. Uniquely costumed vendors sell handcrafted items such as glass bowls and vases, jewelry and art. Treasures that you won't find elsewhere make your holiday or personal gift buying a cinch. Time: Friday 9am -7pm, Saturday 10am -7pm, Sunday 10am -5pm. SEAL BEACH - Red Car Museum is open. Noon to 3 p.m. Visit the past with a look at this historic rail car that used to drive between Los Angeles and Seal Beach daily. Transformed into a museum with videos, pictures and a great collection of memorabilia, it is well worth a stop and look. Open 2nd & 4th Saturdays, the museum provides the most comprehensive look into the history of Seal Beach. Donations are accepted. SONORA - Sonora Christmas Craft and Music Festival.  33rd Annual event includes a parade in downtown Sonora on Friday November 23rd at 5:30 p.m. Festival features over 200 quality craft artists, music, street performers, costumed elves and twinkle trees, carolers, a wide selection of home-cooking style festival kitchens and bake shops, all in festive, brightly colored craft halls. Time: Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 10a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission: $7 for Adults; $5 for Seniors; $2 for Children 6-12. Parking is $2 at the Fairgrounds. YUCAIPA - Apple Butter Festival at the Southern California apple ranch, Rileys at Los Rios Rancho, includes demonstrations, games, music and an old-fashioned hoedown.
