BISHOP - Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Bishop Chamber's Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Bishop City Park Festivities start at 5:30 pm. Park Christmas tree lights up at 6 pm sharp! Hot cocoa, coffee, cookies, candy, great holiday music and Santa! Children can tell Santa their Christmas wishes at the Chamber's Visitors Bureau at the park from 3 to 6 pm. BURBANK -  12 Days of Holiday Cheer - Events range from happenings in Downtown Burbank, at Burbank Town Center and the City of Burbank Mayor's Tree-Lighting ceremony. Also featured are a Downtown parade, merchant and restaurant events, strolling musicians, choirs and family favorites like Snow Day, Reindeer Run and Breakfast with Santa. downtown-burbank.org

 

CARMICHAEL - Holiday House Display - More than just lights, many say this event rivals the Bellagio water show in Las Vegas. Over 2 million computer-controlled actions or "states" per song create one of the best light and music shows you'll find. Visitors are invited to bring canned good donations. Time: Sunday - Thursday 6pm-9pm; Friday-Saturday 6pm-10pm. Location: 6425 Meadowhill Court, Carmichael, CA 95608. Directions: Go North on Fair Oaks Blvd from Arden Way. CERRITOS - Merry-Achi Christmas stars Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles and Pafico Dance Company.  Colorful costumes, dance and music make this holiday incredibly bright and festive.   Location: Cerritos Performing Arts Center, 12799 Center Court, Cerritos, CA. CORONADO - Skating by The Sea. Three-hour skating sessions will be offered daily from 2 to 5 pm and 6 to 9 pm. A special matinee skating sessions from 11 am to 1 pm will occur on weekends and holidays. 3-hour session: $20/adults; $15/ages 10 years and under; 2-hour matinee session $15/adult; $10/ages 10 years and under. GARDEN GROVE - The Glory of Christmas Musical. A blend of Christmas carols, pageantry, live animals, flying angels, and special effects unfold in the nativity story. HUNTINGTON BEACH - Bikes to Baja. Donate your bicycles and slightly used sports equipment to be given as Christmas gifts to kids in Baja Mexico. LONG BEACH - Christmas Candlelight Tours: Unexpected Guests for the Holidays Rancho Los Cerritos. Step back in time to December 23, 1878 as the Bixby’s host unexpected guests lost in route to Los Angeles. Celebrate a Victorian Christmas at Rancho Los Cerritos and meet the Bixby family, friends and workers on this active sheep ranch in the years before Long Beach was founded. A costumed docent will guide guests through the adobe house by lamplight where they can compare today’s traditions with yesterday’s by learning about 19th century holiday festivities and social attractions, all the while sampling daily life, economic viewpoints and the changing landscape of the Los Angeles region. The 163-year-old adobe will be adorned with Victorian greenery and decorations throughout the holiday season and can be toured during public hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. The Rancho will be closed December 24, 25 and 31, 2007 and January 1, 2008.  Historic Site, 4600 Virginia Road, Long Beach 90807. MONTEREY -  Christmas in the Adobes. Evening candlelit walking tours of historic Monterey and the adobes. Participating buildings are decorated with period ornamentation. Refreshments and entertainment. Experience Monterey's beautiful historic buildings illuminated by candlelight and enhanced with period decorations, musical entertainment, costumed volunteers and refreshments. MURPHYS - Murphys Christmas Open House - Annual Open House will light the community tree, and experience an old-time community holiday spirit. Musicians and carolers fill the streets with holiday cheer. A favorite of locals, the annual event is an old-fashioned community celebration featuring holiday treats, and local wines hosted by Main Street merchants and the Murphys Business Association. Time: Main Street closed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. If the weather permits, Santa & Mrs. Claus arrive at 5:30 p.m. by carriage down Main Street. OAKLAND - Christmas Revels. The California Revels celebrate Winter Solstice with a play in the tradition of  19th century English countryside with music, dance and drama. PISMO BEACH - Holiday Harmony and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Fresh snow, Santa's Village, a bounce house, cookie decorating and more. Adults will enjoy live music and holiday shopping and holiday tree lighting (6 p.m.) in front of the Pismo Beach Pier. Caroling, hot apple cider will be served and Santa will hand out candy canes to the children starting at 5:30pm. Both activities are offered free to the public. SACRAMENTO - The Nutcracker performed by Sacramento Ballet, the annual event is better than ever.  Time: 7 p.m. Location: Sacramento Community Theater, Community Center Theater, 1301 L Street, Sacramento, CA. SALINAS - Streets of Bethlehem Living Nativity. Over 300 actors, animals, music and a Christmas tradition re-enacted in the streets of Salinas by First Christian Church. SAN JOSE - Downtown Ice skating rink is open through 1/13/08 in the stately-palm court and features over 8,000 square feet of ice in an arena and circular outer rink. Time: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. weeknights; Noon to Midnight on weekends; Special holiday hours, subject to change...call to confirm. Cost: $12-$14. Skate all you want first-come, first-serve. UNIVERSAL CITY - Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk Christmas includes Santa visits and fun holiday atmosphere with local street performers all day, high-energy bands and choirs performing nightly. Take your picture with Santa by the CityWalk Christmas tree located in Cinema Plaza. SANTA ANA - Science of Gingerbread. Mix things up this holiday season with Discovery Science Center ’s Science of Gingerbread exhibition to Jan. 6, 2008.  “A Matter of Taste” stage shows, kitchen science activities and weekend decorating demonstrations include the gingerbread competition for cash prizes.
