Mar 24 - May 26 LOS ANGELES Autry Musuem of Western Heritage premiers PAINTED LIGHT: California Impressionist Paintings from the Gardena High School/Los Angeles Unified School District Collection. One of the most unique collections of California Impressionist paintings debuts in the George Montgomery Gallery at the Autry Museum. The collection includes many important artists in California painting from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Fifteen of the most significant works, including those by Maynard Dixon, James G. Swinnerton, and Maurice Braun, will remain on the extended loan program at the Autry Museum and will be rotated throughout our permanent galleries. The paintings that comprise Painted Light embody the distinctive qualities of California Impressionism by combining vibrant brushwork and color with a deep reverence for nature. These paintings testify in a most eloquent manner about the need for enlightened environmental management. They stand in silent testament to the ageless beauty of our land as it existed a century ago.
