Whether you like Surfing California USA or surfing the globe, this
beloved sport draws people to the ocean and nature in a way no other
sports activity can. In California, if you see coastline and waves,
you'll usually find surfers out there in the Pacific Ocean riding them.
From the popular San Diego beaches, to Orange
County, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey,
Santa Cruz, San Mateo, San Francisco, Napa, Mendocino and portions of
Humboldt and Trinidad counties, surf shops, surf clothes, surfboards,
surf racks, surfing events and surf beaches are everywhere.
Variations of the surfing theme
are reflected in popular art. Statues commemorate local surfing legends,
public art integrates icons and themes to reflect cultural interest and
the surfboard, itself, is utilized for a number of things. From a sign
above a youth hostel, a table top surface and even fence adornment,
surfboards can be seen spread across the landscape like old Vee-dubs (VW's
or Volkswagens).
One of the most pleasing graphic
shapes to photograph and use as a physical object that interacts with
humans is the surfboard. It's side is not much larger than its subject
holding it. It is often colorful. It has a distinctive shape that's
clearly recognizable. Whether you surf or not, visit California beach
cities and communities to enjoy surfboards. For a real treat, enter a
surfboard shop and see the colorful objects lined up in a rack.
When visiting
Oxnard, we have a favorite hotel that we are just
hooked on, no two ways about it. We like to stay at
the
Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach. Whether you
pay more for the ocean view, or just get the regular
room, it's not bad either way. In fact, it's great!
