California Flowers & Botanical Gardens
California Flowers and Botanical Gardens -
California Beach Photography
California Flowers and Botanical Gardens are some offer
the finest collections of native plants, rare and
endangered flowers and fauna, and lovely spaces for the
public to enjoy throughout California. Wherever
you travel in California, you'll find flowers of some
sort, even in the desert regions after the rainy season.
Flowers offer solace in times of sadness, delight in
times of joy and food sources for the birds, bees and
even humans who can enjoy certain types of edible
flowers. Many of the flower gardens offer tours or
brochures to guide you through you journey. Most charge
a modest admission fee but you'll find that the price
you pay is well worth the time it takes to water,
nourish and supply valuable land space for these public
places.
California's state flower is the California
Poppy, shown in the photo in the upper left
column. This beautiful, bright orange bloom
grows wild in fields seasonally, and is
especially cheerful to look at and enjoy.
The poppy we photographed was taken in a
spectacular, natural garden in Santa
Barbara. The Getty Gardens shown above are
immaculate and massive. You have to
wander through them, rather than look from
the gallery buildings above, to get a handle
on the scope of these carefully planned
botanical gardens. We were so inspired by
the grace of San Diego's Balboa Park flowers
gardens that we researched and wrote a story
about the beautiful gardens there.
From Santa Catalina Island's Wrigley
Botanical Garden with incredible
architecture, to Filoli Estate in San Mateo
County, flower gardens are scattered
throughout California for tourists to visit
and enjoy. Below is a list flower gardens
you can investigate when visiting or
traveling through the state:
Arizona Cactus Garden - Arizona Cactus
Garden or Stanford Cactus Garden is
located on the Stanford University Arboretum
near the Stanford Family Mausoleum and the
Angel of Grief. The Palo Alto, California
garden is open free to the public daily and
offers an interesting collection of cacti
and succulents. First planted between 1880
and 1883 for Jane and Leland Stanford, the
garden was regularly maintained until the
1920s after which it fell into disrepair.
Restoration in 1997 and current efforts to
maintain approx. 500 cacti and succulents in
58 beds divided into Eastern Hemisphere
plants with aloe, jade and other succulents,
and the Western Hemisphere section native to
the Americas, make this an interesting place
to stop when visiting Palo Alto.
Balboa Park Gardens - Balboa Park Gardens on
1200 acres of rolling hills, with
approximately 1,500 trees contain a rose
garden, lily ponds and cacti gardens, to
name a few.
