California Fishing Derby events,
festivals and fairs offer fishing
opportunities for kids and adults. Fishing
has become one of the top sports and
most popular forms of recreation,
especially in California where pier
fishing costs only the price of bait, a
rod and reel. Below are a list of
fishing derby contests, fish contest
events and any items of interest we have
found. Some of the public fishing
programs include events sponsored by the
Department of Fish & Game with their
fishing in the city, derbies and
contests in which volunteers help
teach people how to put bait on a line,
how to cast, and when to know if a fish
is biting, plus when to begin reeling
in. California is usually associated
with beaches and swimsuits but fishing
derbies and fishing events are more
abundant in California than most any
other state in the U.S.
