California
Fairs are held throughout the year with over 70
annual events to enjoy. From traditional
agricultural and farm competitions to arts and
crafts, the rural and urban fairs combine many
great aspects of diverse California in a celebration of
food, music, entertainment, art and agriculture.
Fairs not only offer great entertainment, they
also provide educational opportunities with
hands-on exhibits allowing children adults to touch
and feel, look at and smell livestock, baby
chicks and more.

Los
Angeles County Fair television ads even poked fun at adults accustomed to
simple foods such as hot dogs. The largest
county fair in the world gets well over one
million visitors each year. In addition to over
2000 vendors selling funnel cakes, BBQ, grilled
chicken and hotdog on a stick, you'll find
thoroughbred racing and top entertainment, plus
local days focused on nearby communities and
several days with Hispanic entertainment such as
contemporary rock and pop musicians known
throughout Mexico, or the annual Fiesta Day.
Up coast in
the Monterey Bay area, the fair takes on an
interesting twist. Located near the Salad Bowl
of America (Salinas), the
Monterey County Fair guarantees you'll find
some unique foods and wines to sample during
your visit. Monterey County blends fine dining,
arts, entertainment and cuisine with farm
living, as much of the county is a rich
agricultural commodity.
Orange County Fair is beloved by those who
find the beach lifestyle's not all that bad.
Sure, you don't get many opportunities to raise
cattle in the OC, but that doesn't mean that it
can't be imported from other regions. With
greater focus on arts, culture and
entertainment, the OC Fair offers the food and
trappings you'll find elsewhere, plus the
carnival rides, latest home appliances, and just
plain fun.
With so many
youth growing up in California's urban areas,
there's a real need for fairs. Each fair is
different and fun so if you have the
opportunity, don't visit just one--check out
several.
Fairs make great weekend getaway vacations,
especially in places such as Sonoma and Napa
where wine products are grown.
