California is known for its beautiful weather, incredible landscape and fantastic beaches. A trip to San Francisco CA simply isn't complete without a visit to one of the Bay Area's best kept secrets Phillip Burton Memorial Beach aka Burton Beach. Located less than ten minutes away from downtown San Francisco, this attraction is known by those "in the know" for its ample space, dramatic bluffs, and the beautiful Pacific breeze that graces its visitors.
At Burton Memorial Beach, located just over the San Fransico County line near Daly City in San Mateo County, we are close enough to San Francisco to enjoy its amenities but far enough away to avoid the crowds. The southern outskirts of San Francisco allows for smooth traffic that will allow you to enjoy the dozens of restaurants and eateries in the area including a favorite - Joe's of Westlake in Daly City. Or simply stop by a market to enjoy a picnic on the beach.
We have plenty of ways to pass the time close to Burton Beach. Several shops close by specialize in beautiful clothing at affordable prices. Just east is the Olympic Golf Course where you can spend 18 holes enjoying the beautiful landscape and coastal breeze from the Pacific. Also close is the San Bruno State Park, where you can soak in wildlife and forestry preserved for several hundred years. Fort Funston Park is north along the coast and Thornton Beach State Park is south. There are also some fantastic hiking trails nearby: Bootjack Trail is just south of the beach, along with Ben Johnson which offers spectacular scenery. You could probably spend a day just exploring Burton Memorial's long coastline. A high tide will produce waves that crash against nearby bluffs; truly an awe-inspiring sight.
