Buellton has been
featured in a variety of films and production efforts but its most recent fame
came from the movie, Sideways, that showed the windmill Days Inn pictured above.

The movie includes several of the highlights of this small city such as Best
Western Pea Soup Anderson's Inn and Hitching Post restaurant, a local favorite
for its oak wood flavored beef steaks of top choice cuts. The film accurately
depicts the local flavor in a segment in which the two tourists to Buellton walk
on the side of Highway 246 to the restaurant with a string of car lights
whizzing by them.
Buellton is located on
US Highway 101 in the Santa Ynez Valley. This Santa
Barbara County city is located within six miles of the Danish city of
Solvang, western town of Santa Ynez and communities of Ballard and Los Olivos.
Larger cities in the area include Santa Barbara, 40 miles southeast, Santa Maria
35 miles north, Lompoc, Vandenberg Air Force Base and Vandenberg Village, 17
miles west on State Highway 246. Los Angeles is two hours south of Buellton on
US 101, and San Francisco is about a five hour drive north on US 101.
Buellton is fairly small but has several gas stations, Taco Bell, Burger King, AJ Spurs and Hitching Post restaurant to name a few restaurants.
It's been known restaurant, Andersen's Pea Soup has had guests drooling with delight
for decades as they've driven on Highway 101 in Central California. When
that craving for split pea soup will not go away, save your hunger for a
road stop in Buellton.
Soup restaurant is visible from the highway and is the hub of activity.
A visitors center, restaurant and hotel are most always buzzing with guests
seeking the famous green soup which is served up by the gallons, in a small
city near Solvang along the Central California Coast. From San Francisco: Hwy 101 S to Hwy 246, turn right 1
block. Be sure to bring a camera and take a picture in one of the funny,
wooden painted sets in which you place your head in the slot and become
part of the scene.

Located near two missions, La Purisima Concepcion and
Solvang Mission, the green rolling hills in Buellton and the surrounding
area are breathtaking. Also quite colorful and fragrant are the flowers
planted for seed in nearby Lompoc, known as Valley of the Flowers.
Flower viewing occurs during the summer months of June and July,
usually. The drive to Lompoc takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes.
There is a
beautiful Albertson's grocery store, car dealer and other shops, amenities and

lovely, home-town glow with a pumpkin patch near the side of the road on Highway
246. From the spring lush green hues of the hills to burnished gold colors
of summer and fall, Buellton offers a storybook appearance that can make you
fall in love with the region. Housing prices and property maintain high
value as the weather features warmer, dryer climate than nearby Santa Barbara,
Lompoc and Santa Maria, all kept cool by the Pacific Ocean.
Ostrich Land produces ostrich chicks through breeders,
feathers, eggs, ostrich meat and unique leather used for briefcases and
boots. Children and adults delight in a visit to the farm where you
can place a quarter (25 cents) in a dispenser and purchase a pan full of
food. Adult ostriches stick their heads through the fencing and eat right
out of your pan with the food disappearing quickly. The chicks are shy
and generally avoid contact with humans so don't expect them to come up
