AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Kessy & Ross Upset May-Treanor & Branagh

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: events

HUNTINGTON BEACH , Calif. — The first victory in Southern California for pro beach volleyball’s Jen Kessy and April Ross in their own “turf” of Orange County was a triumph that nothing compares to, they said. Upsetting top-seeded Misty May-Treanor and Nicole Branagh, 14-21, 21-12, 15-11 in Sunday’s final of the AVP NIVEA Tour Huntington Beach Open Presented by Bud Light Lime, they felt an extra sense of pride in the fact that they both consider themselves Orange County locals.

There were fewer surprises in the men’s competition when Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser beat Sean Scott and John Hyden, 21-16, 18-21, 15-9, in Sunday’s final, for the fourth victory in five years competing in Huntington Beach. The 2008 Olympic gold medalists have teamed to win twice on the AVP Tour this season and 39 times in their career. Dalhausser racked up four aces in the match. Dalhausser said that hs team mate forced the other team into a transition set, because they just dug the ball, and then they’ tried to scramble and transition.

The AVP NIVEA Tour continues June 18-20 in Virginia Beach, but they’ll be back in another HB (Hermosa Beach) July 16-18.
