CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, CA–A Free Trolley in Clint Eastwood’s city will be reducing pollution and helping people get around this charming, hilly city on a 1/2-hour loop between Downtown, the Beach, Mission and Sunset Cultural Center from 11am to 6pm through Labor Day. Watch for it and jump on board.
Funded by a grant from the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District and the people of Carmel, the much-needed vehicle will be operated by Monterey-Salinas Transit. It couldn’t come at a better time, as thousands descend on the popular, international tourist destination, which later this month will be hosting the US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The forest green trolley goes between all the popular tourist spots in Carmel, California. Downtown Carmel; Carmel Beach; Carmel Mission and Sunset Center in a continuous loop. Departing every thirty minutes, look for the signs with a green trolley posted on them.
- Downtown Carmel - Quaint tree-lined streets are filled with galleries, upscale shopping, world class restaurants and well-appointed accommodations.
- Carmel Beach - Consistently voted one of the top beaches in the country. Enjoy soft sand and cool water between your toes or stroll above the water’s edge on a more accessible path.
- Carmel Mission - Founded in 1771 by Father Junipero Serra, San Carlos Borroméo del Rio Carmelo Mission was once the headquarters for the entire California mission system. Today it houses the Carmel Mission Basilica and the shrine of Father Junipero Serra and functions as a thriving parish and school.
- Sunset Center - This community and cultural center hosts more than 50 classical music performances each year and welcomes artists from around the world to its stage.
Bravo to the sponsors and city known for its creativity, caring people and serving as home and/or business site for the likes of former Mayor Clint Eastwood, famed Actress/Singer Doris Day and Brad Pitt. Carmel is one of the most scenic, artistic, and popular beach destinations with international travelers.
