In business since 1945, Sugar N Spice on Marine Avenue has been serving up hundreds of thousands of frozen chocolate covered bananas since it first opened its doors. Served in size small, medium, large and xlarge, each banana offers your choice of coating that adheres to the chocolate. Nuts or colored crunch candies of every color are several choices that will tempt you into breaking your diet. Just remember, you are eating a healthy banana with loads of potassium and thaty can’t be bad for you, now can it?
Getting there: Take the Balboa Ferry (costs $1 to walk on board), from Newport Beach Pavilion area, then stroll the South Bay Front to Marine Ave. The walk is approx .7 miles. Another option is driving your car onto the island and parking there. On Pacific Coast Highway turn at Jamboree toward the ocean. Jamboree ends at Bayside. Take Marine Avenue a block or two onto the island.
