Young Skaters Launch Long Beach’s Crystal Ice

Long Beach, Calif.–The Pike in Long Beach launched a new ice skating rink attraction, Crystal Ice Skating, jut in time for the holiday season. Open daily through Jan. 31, 2010, Crystal Ice Skating launched with a show that included four young skaters who are on their way to becoming stars, or at least graceful young women with great potential.
Along with the girls, a big pink shrimp came out and skated. There was one scary moment when the shrimp’s head fell off, but none of the kids or parents watching the ice show were traumatized or upset, and most thought it was just the launch of a great season of spills, chills and thrills at the waterfront in Long Beach.
The Pike’s foray into holiday events includes a Christmas Tree Lot next door to the rink, overlooking the Rainbow Lagoon. Family entertainment never looked so good as this holiday season. A carousel, Ferris wheel, Aquarium of the Pacific and many restaurants make for a season of celebrations.
We caught the ice skate opening, then grabbed some great pizza and salads around the corner at California Pizza Kitchen. For hotel stays, the Hyatt Regency hotel is right across the street.
The rink is open through January 31, 2010, seven days a week; weekdays 11am – 11pm and weekends 10am to 12am. Skate sessions are 1.5 hours long. Skaters parking will be validated in The Pike’s parking structure. thepikeatlongbeach.com
