Orange County, California Shelters Opening for Cold Weather
Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california
Orange County, Calif.–Known for its pristine Orange County beaches, wealthy residents and spoiled teens portrayed in soap operas and tv shows, the world doesn’t hear about the homeless quite so much. With many already out of their homes, and others just one paycheck away from losing it all, the homeless situation isn’t just about adults. Kids become homeless when their parents have no roof to provide the youth.
Opening December 1 for the cold season are several places where families can sleep. Orange County Cold Weather Shelter Program 2009 – 2010 provides up to 400 beds per night for the homeless at the National Guard Armories in Fullerton and Santa Ana. The homeless will receive a nutritious meal, a warm shower and a safe place to sleep. Volunteers will pass out donations of warm clothing and Service Providers from Orange County will be onsite to provide needed services.
