Holiday Beaches California Style
Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california| events

It’s the most wonderful time of the year–especially if you like to put on your bikini and ice skate at the beach. California beaches have warmed up to the beach ice skating craze and once the ice freezes under the sunshine of a warm winter day, good times begin to roll. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and into the new year, the seasonal ice rinks are open for the public to enjoy. They offer sandy beach settings, sunshine, and pleasures no longer exclusive to places where the air must freeze in order for the ice to do the same.
Several California beach ice rinks worth checking offer ocen views, warm sand, and smooth sailing on ice. This year one has already launched in Redondo Beach at Rainbow Lagoon. Seaside Ice, a public ice skating rink overlooking the gorgeous King Harbor, is rare among California’s venues. An enclosed lagoon that entertains the public all summer long transforms into a seaside ice paradise Southern California style. If you’re looking for some wow, keep your eyes peeled for one of the skate rink’s founders, Scott William, and his lovely wife Azumi, who often will treat the audience to shows. Award winning skaters and athletes are featured throughout the holiday season, in fact. There are theme nights, movie nights, special treats such as Santa visits, ice shows, and best of all, Ruby’s Diner has a window right at the rink where you can buy malts, sodas, hamburgers and other treats. Make it a family weekend getaway or couples stay by booking a room next door at Crowne Plaza. Nov. 10, 2009 - Jan. 18, 2010. seasideice.com
Another superb skating spot is on Coronado Island in San Diego. Hotel del Coronado introduced an outdoor ice skating rink several years ago, and it is back for its 5th season. Ice skating will run from November 25, 2009 to January 3, 2010.
