Queen Mary Gives Sir Winston a Facelift

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california| dining| events

Long Beach, Calif.–The beautiful Queen is issuing some facelifts starting with Sir Winston’s. That’s the word direct from the Queen’s mouth, as the Long Beach, CA ship begins to renovate three onboard dining establishments.  Coming home to oversee the Queen of the sea’s dining menu is the Executive Chef Larry Banares, who left 17 years ago and now  rejoins the ship’s culinary team to steer the menu transition towards sustainability.

Sir Winston’s, the ship’s signature restaurant and a Long Beach dining favorite since 1972, is preparing for exciting menu and décor changes set to take effect by Dec. 21, just in time for the holidays. Similar updates are planned for the ship’s more casual Promenade Café in January and will be followed by more extensive updates for its seafood restaurant, the Chelsea.

Sir Winston’s Beef Wellington and rack of lamb will remain, but like the restaurant itself, are expected to be more exciting with contemporary interpretation. The new menu will also embrace today’s sustainable dining practices, emphasizing local in-season produce as well as premium meats and poultry sourced from specialty farms.

Contemporary meets classic in the new menu, says Banares, who began his career as an executive chef with the Queen Mary more than 17 years ago. Diners eager to taste Chef Larry’s creations will find them among the nightly specials offered at Sir Winston’s until Dec. 6 when the renovations begin.

Sir Winston’s traditional décor will also be refreshed in both its dining area and the adjoining elegant Champagne Lounge.  One thing that will not be changing is the restaurant’s sweeping ocean and Long Beach skyline views.

Sir Winston’s is open daily for dinner from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. with live music every Friday to Sunday in the Champagne Lounge. Dress code is smart casual, and parking is $5 with validation. For reservations, call (562) 499-1657, sirwinstons@queenmary.com or reserve online at www.queenmary.com
