Seal Beach Sunset Photo Taken with my New Canon SX20 Power Shot

Seal Beach, California — The perfect place to open up my new Canon Power Shot SX20 and give it a whirl, I walked the Seal Beach Pier trying to get a handle on this camera that feels more like an SLR digital in size. The photo above was taken from the parking lot at the Seal Beach shopping center on PCH, where I went to buy groceries on my way home.

Camera Cons: You cannot look at the viewfinder and the digital display at the same time, from what I can tell. Very difficult transitioning to see the video and photos and get immediate feedback from a tiny viewfinder that looks quite distorted.

Many buttons that don’t offer intuitive use. It is a steep learning curve to gain control and master this tool.

Weight and size are somewhat heavy and cumbersome for grab and shoot. Definitely won’t fit in your back pocket!

Pros:

20x zoom lens built in. It lacks a lens filter thread system, so you have to be really careful not to break it.

Lens is not SLR canon or nikon pro quality…but it’s better than previous sure shot renditions.

Video in HD. Now this is an improvement. I look forward to downloading some of my new vids and analyzing them.

Summary: Good points, bad points, but overall, it’s the next step in bridging the gap to come up with pro digital SLRs with video auto focus capability. I still consider this camera a toy. Its workmanship is not durable. The popup flash looks like it won’t last very long. But for a Sure Shot, this seems to be the best they’ve got and if you don’t mind the weight, you’re getting some of the latest features. I wouldn’t trust it on pro assignments.  I bought my camera  at Buydig as it offered the best price. I am satisfied with their service and would order from them again.
