Pirates Dinner Show - Adults Get in at Kids Price Through Nov. 30

Buena Park, CA–Sometime you just have to lighten up. If you go to the Pirates Dinner Adventure in Buena Park near Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland, don’t expect opera, and don’t expect heavy story-lines with much to contemplate as you leave the theater. The Pirates Dinner Theater is great fun, decent food, music, aerial  acrobatics, audience participation, and kids absolutely love it.

Right now there’s a special through Nov. 30. Adults get in at kids price - $34.

An authentically replicated 18th-century Spanish galleon measuring 46 feet long, 18 feet wide with 40-foot masts is anchored in a 250,000-gallon indoor lagoon with night sky lighting. Surrounding the lagoon is a six-sided showroom of six additional “ships” where the audience is seated. Voyagers on each of the six “ships” have their own fearless pirate “mascot” whom they cheer on as the adventure unfolds with a cast of a dozen actors, singers and stunt performers engaging in a bounty of action-packed exploits, accompanied by cannon blasts, pyrotechnics and a liberal dose of wit and wizardry.

I sat next to the ropes to pull my ships flags and when I forgot, a pirate came by and helped me out. Some on our ship went down to the main floor (mostly kids) and cheered along, or participated in the antics to save the lovely maiden.

The Feast: Served during the show: fresh garden salad, roasted chicken and shrimp with lobster and scallops or seasoned beef, choice of red potatoes or West Indies yellow rice with Caribbean seasonings and steamed fresh vegetables. Warm apple cobbler and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Soft drinks are included. Beer and cocktails are available for adults.

Being a far too serious person, I have to recommend that everyone go see this. In my case, it was just to see how happy kids are in make-believe pirate fantasy theater. I got into myself. But for me, watching the people in the audience surrounding me was as much fun as the main stage where some talented actors and singers do a great job of putting on a show–it’s pure escape.
