I Gotta’ Run! To Lopez Lake Turkey Festival & Turkey Trot

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: california| events| travel

Thanksgiving is coming up in just a few weeks and this means only one thing. I gotta run!

With the popularity of turkey trots increasing, the coast is nearly covered with them. So instead of chasing turkeys, you can be one. The 2nd annual Turkey Festival at Lopez Lake in San Luis Obispo County draws hundreds of people NOT to eat turkey, but to watch the wild turkeys that run through the woods and forests in the park. There are also deer and other animals that live there and can be seen most days. And if you sign up for the Turkey Trot, you can run like a turkey, just for fun.

The event held on Sunday, Nov. 15 is one of those community gatherings that just might make you want to pack up and leave L.A. or San Francisco, or New York, and move to Central Coast country.  Lopez Lake Turkey Festival will include live music by “Those Guys”, Kids Carnival, Tiny Mile Turkey Trot, 5K Turkey Trek, Quality Handcrafted Arts and Craft Vendors, Food, Turkey Call Contest, Kids & Adult Raffle, Free Nature Boat Cruises and Hayrides. The main events will take place at the Valley Oak day use area located directly across from the ranger office.  Our friends from Green Acres Lavender Farm will be there, possibly selling their products for holiday gift giving or personal care. Janice said their crop of lavender honey is quite small this season but it’s the best they”ve ever tasted. So you may want to call her and find out if there’s any to be had. What a healthy gift it would make for Christmas! Tel:(805)466-0837. For the Turkey Festival, see slocountyparks.com
