Chico Hosts 6th Annual Cultural & Heritage Tourism Symposium

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california| events| travel

The Roads that Lead to California’s Culture and Heritage are filled with great promotions, and a wealth of natural resources that are just waiting to be discovered.  If you are interested in promoting your local assets , you may be interested in attending this event January 27-29, 2010 in Chico, California at Bell Memorial Auditorium, CSU Chico.

One of the speakers is Beth Macmillan, Executive Director of Artown since 2003. She has produced extremely successful events, created “out of the box” approaches and strategic partnerships to presentations and future Artown commissions.

Beth’s session will demonstrate how arts and culture have been used as an economic tool to revive a region. In 1996, downtown Reno was dying. Hotels were closing and there was no retail, restaurants or urban living. The City of Reno, together with business leaders, decided to use an arts celebration to bring people back downtown. It worked. After 14 years, the festival draws 350,000 locals and tourists to over 100 locations throughout Reno with more than 400 events during the 31 days of July. 60% of the festival is free admission, and the artists range from local to internationally acclaimed artists, covering every arts discipline. Use this example to develop events to draw tourists to your community. Call Despina M. Kreatsoulas: (916) 319-5422 for more info or send email to: dkreatsoulas@visitcalifornia.com
