Piracy Causes Luxury Cruise Line to Abandon Newest Route
Yachts of the Seabourn is moving its Seabourn Legend, a luxury liner cruise ship, from its planned Indian Ocean route to the Caribbean, due to concerns over piracy. It is the first to permanently cancel its route and switch to safer seas after assessing the situation and safety of passengers, considered to be more affluent. Seabourn Legend was scheduled to sail during the 2010 and 2011 seasons between the Seychelles, Kenya, Zanzibar and Madagascar, among its destinations and islands, but the recent attacks on vessels along the Horn of Africa such as the hijacking of a Chinese ship have created grave concerns that passengers could be considered targets and could be taken hostage by Somali terrorists.
