‘Setting Up Green School Gardens’ Workshop in Carpinteria

SANTA BARBARA, CA– Green Schools, an environmental education program of Art From Scrap, is offering a School Gardening workshop for teachers, aides, and parent volunteers. The School Gardening workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 3, at 3:30 pm-6:00 pm, at Carpinteria High School, which is located at 4810 Foothill Road in Carpinteria. The workshop will feature a garden tour, given by Bill Palmisano, the  Agricultural Fellow at Carpinteria High School’s Agricultural Science and Technology Academy (ASTA). Palmisano directs Carpinteria High School’s garden program. Tahara Ezrahti, AFS Green Schools Education Director, will talk about how to start or enhance a school garden and answer questions about gardening and composting.

The cost of the workshop is $5.00 per person and includes a copy of the Garden Detectives Curriculum, handouts, free seeds, and a limited number of free plant starts from Healing Grounds Nursery.

Pre-registration is required. Call Tahara Ezrahti at (805) 884-0459 x12 to reserve your spot. It’s good to see gardening being encouraged as an environmental education program. Here are some water-wise gardening tips that will help especially in Southern California.
Use less-than-thirsty plants in your garden.
Keep turf grass to a minimum.
Group plants thoughtfully.
Water plants only when needed.
Look for plants that are well-suited to regional and local conditions.
