California beaches Nude Sunbathing Ban Coverage

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california

We’ve been covering the nude sunbathing controversy to make sure our page on nude beaches in California on Californiabeaches.com is up to date. A recent appeal by a Huntington Beach attorney, Allen Baylis, who successfully wins many traffic ticket cases, didn’t turn out that way to date on the issue of nude sunbathing at a Southern California state beach at San Onofre.  What’s of interest as this has played out is how the coverage has grown so that it became the Number One reported story yesterday and today for the CA Beaches.  Here are some headlines and the news organizations that thought them up:

Prudery is child abuse with good intentions. Ignorance is no excuse.

I have been following this story in many of the articles you mention. The legislators need to learn to distinguish between lewd or aggressive behaviour and simple, non-sexual, nudity.

The kind of prudish ignorance displayed here is born of prejudice and has no place in a free society. Prudity has been shown to have a very negative effect on rates of teenage pregnancy, abortions and STI’s. The more prudish US (as illustrated by this story) has ten times the teenage pregnancy rate of the best countries in Europe, countries where nudity is common on beaches and in parks.

Modern humans (h. sapiens) have occupied this planet for about 200,000 years, but have only worn clothes for the last 71,000 years (according to the DNA of the body, or clothes, louse). Now, it seems, the wearing of clothes is becoming an obligation enforceable by law!

Where has mankind gone so wrong that we are ashamed of our own bodies? The wearing of clothes should be a right, not an obligation.
