If moving to the beaches and wine country of Central Coast California sounds appealing, today’s entrepreneur will normally check out the Internet and communications services before going. While they may seem like small concerns, when your primary business relies on having excellent connectivity at high speeds, it’s something you don’t want to overlook as you pack your bags and move.
Good news could be on the way for some Central Coast residents and future residents.
I saw a press release from Grover Beach that says the city applied for federal stimulus monies made available from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). With a Technology Master Plan to become a hub for broadband communications on the west coast, Grover Beach in San Luis Obispo County could become the technology hub as a landing point for fiber optic cable connecting the U.S. to Japan. With $3 million stimulus funds from ARRA, and technical guidance from Digital West Networks Inc., Grover Beach hopes to implement a plan that will deliver broadband services beyond those defined by the Federal Communications Commission.
The Master Technology Plan will be completed in a series of phases, the first of which is intended to provide economic vitality to commercial and industrial areas of the City. By nature of its proximity to a Trans Pacific cable to Japan, Grover Beach looks forward to a time when businesses will relocate to take advantage of direct access to the Asian markets.
Now millions of us can make plans to leave San Francisco, L.A. and San Diego, and turn Grover Beach into another overcrowded place like we left behind. Oh the marvels of technology!
