Health of our Beaches– Heal the Bay, California Beach Report Card

Posted by: Beach Reporter In: beaches| california

This hasn’t been that great week for water quality at California beaches. Topping the chart are 21 beach locations with a flat “F” grade. And that’s not even getting into the D water quality issues. Some of the repeat offending beaches have been on the list throughout the summer and should be no surprise. With a dry year and not much rain in a pattern of drought, the closures have been minimal, which has allowed tourists and locals to enter the water without awareness of any issues.

Tonight the Samoan tsunami from a 7.9 richter earthquake, is supposed to travel the 4,o00 to the California coast, where tsunami advisories were issued as it travels 400 mph, and the waves arrive after 9 p.m.  There is no tsunami warning but swimmers and surfers are advised to beware of possible irregularities in currents.
