Listen up guys & gals! A show on TLC promises to make you think twice about the consequences of those foolish acts that occur in the heat of passion. It must have been a marathon I saw when show after show broadcast re-enactments (interspersed with interviews from the real women) who went from what they thought were menstrual cramps to voom!, suddenly giving birth without even knowing they were pregnant.
From women to husbands and boyfriends, all interviewed said that the women didn’t look pregnant, didn’t act pregnant, had no sickness or cravings, and much to their amazement, went from a bout of painful cramps most thought were a period, to delivering a baby within minutes or hours. How could this happen? Time after time the woman was in such bad pain she thought she was dying. In the hospital, a doctor gave her the surprise that she was getting ready to deliver a baby. That’s basically the crux of the show. This TLC series is yet one more in the line-up of cheap, easy-to-produce reality programming.
Some of the women smoke and drank liquor throughout their pregnancies, and the doctor told each that the baby was going to be fine. For one couple it was a blessing. For a single mom it was a mistake.
One took birth control shots throughout her pregnancy…she probably got pregnant when the shots were administered just as she quit the pill.
One was just careless, she guesses. She’s a single mom with two other children.
One college couple had trouble with their condom and it must have broken, unbeknownst to them.
One was told she could never become pregnant. Surprise!
Another took birth control shots… this was the second case where the shots failed.
So what’s the lesson here? Don’t have sex unless you’re prepared to have a baby or to be a responsible father to child that you will support for at least 18 years.
