Seal Beach Concert Series Draws Crowds

Seal Beach free summer concerts titled “9 in 9″ (nine concerts in 2009) continues with an all star line-up to include Sligo Rags, a popular Irish band that recently appeared at the Lavender Festival in Atascadero. Last night hundreds of visitors flocked to Seal Beach to watch a free concert featuring Kelly Fitzgerald band.
Sponsored by Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce, the event continues to grow in popularity, according to Erik Dryer-Goldman, who helped put the event together. Some people even put their lawn chairs out at 10 a.m. in the morning to save a spot, he said. The free concerts are held Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eisenhower Park next to Seal Beach Pier, located at the end of Main Street in Seal Beach. Next week the concert series features the band, Hurricane Julie and the Aftermath.
Has the concert series helped the local economy? According to shop owner John Dankha who owns Dankha Gallery on Main Street in Seal Beach, business has picked up on Wednesday evenings since the concert series began. Bogart’s Coffee House, one of the most popular places to stop and grab an iced dessert treat across the street from the concerts has enjoyed the crowds and traffic to their shop, as well.
Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce (sealbeachchamber.com) is working hard to increase revenue to downtown businesses, according to Seth Eaker, another concert planner and Chamber volunteer. The marketing guru who owns Black Marble Consulting said that Seal Beach wants people to visit the city, attend the free concerts, and enjoy this hidden gem of the Southern California coast.
