Big Bear City -- The next ruler of the universe...discovered in Yucca Valley, CA! When little dogs ride in purses that cost more than a house payment, you know they are destined to rule! Jeannie, mosaic artist, business owner and Big Bear local was born on Pine Knot Avenue in 1960. Jeannie's mosaics are mixed media narratives, always done with humor and a touch of irreverence.

On a recent visit to Big Bear, my innkeeper, Doreen Wiggins, took me on a special outing to two places that I won't forget. Introducing me to her friends, I enjoyed some fantastic art from the owners of Serenity Place Art & Fine Crafts. From ceramics to leather chairs, wood carved lamps to photographs of fields in China, there was an amazing selection of unique, one-of-a-kind items to explore. Meanwhile I focused in on an avant garde item, a Chihuahua made of ceramics, wearing a crown and sitting in a jeweled suitcase. Diva Doggy captured my interest as I recently have observed pets going everywhere in people's coats, baskets and bags. Diva Doggy captures the essence of this trend in treating your dog better than your kid.

First Saturday Artist Receptions at Serenity Place Art Gallery feature gallery artists. Displaying artists are on hand to discuss their work. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages are served.
