Video of Shakespeare Festival in Long
Beach, Calif.
Shakespeare outdoor performances
are especially enjoyable in Southern California, and specifically at the
beach. Performed by the Long Beach Shakespeare Theater, you'll discover
that Shakespeare can be lots of fun when performed outdoors in the
spectacular Long Beach climate.
The surroundings are fantastic and
the actors are great. The minor problem in the location (Aquarium
of the Pacific at Rainbow Harbor), is the sounds that the actors must
compete with, such as loudspeaker announcements that tour boats are
leaving. If you can get beyond the annoyance, you're in for a treat.
Long Beach annually offers a Sea
Festival, and a Shakespeare events is part of the celebration.
Performances of several Shakespeare plays delight audiences who bring
lawn chairs, beach towels and blankets to sit on the grass lawn at the
world class aquarium / museum.
For two hours you can be
entertained with song, dance, sword fights and romance and kisses in
plays such as "Romeo and Juliet," about
a teenage couple who fall madly
in love.
The Shakespeare plays occur
Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 6 p.m. and they run to mid-August.
Admission is free and guests are welcome to bring baskets with food to
munch on. lbshakespeare.org |
