Video of Malibu beach traffic on a summer day shows that parking is a challenge, though traffic is plentiful as you drive along the scenic Highway 1 (Coast Highway).

Malibu, California - One of Southern Californiaa's most popular and well known beaches is Malibu as seen in the video above, showing cars driving along Coast Highway 1. Celebrities own expensive homes right on the water line here. And average people like you and me get to enjoy not just the same views they see, but the same beaches! 

One challenge, however, as you embark on a Sunday drive, is the parking situation. It can be horrific, or difficult at best, and the traffic may require you sit in your car and patiently wait until you get that lucky parking spot.

For those out on a leisurely drive, get in your convertible, put the top down, and breeze along the coast.  An ideal trip to break up one of those Central Coast California weekend getaway returns back to your home in L.A. might involve turning in Calabasas from Highway 101 at Los Virgenes exit (past McDonalds, Starbucks, Albertson's) toward the ocean. The drive takes you through the Santa Monica mountains, several parks where you can stop to hike, and then lands you on the coast at Pepperdine University, one of the prettiest college campuses anywhere. Get in the left lane and drive south along the scenic Malibu coast (28 miles worth), and you'll see some ocean, lots of houses that obscure your view of the water along the way, and then a break, where you'll see Malibu pier.

For an excellent but very long Sunday drive to end your weekend getaway or California vacation that can land you and a rental car at Los Angeles Airport (LAX), drive past Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey and there you are at the big airport. It's a great energizer before you sit on a long flight.
