Museum of Latin
American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach video shows the interior exhibits
and quality art. In some galleries prices are posted on the works
(one I looked at cost $20,000). The wall colors enhance the
stunning visual displays of both painted art and sculpture.
MOLAA was a bit
challenging to get to on foot when I took the purple arts bus
provided free by Long Beach Transit Assoc. and the bus driver
suggested I get off (maps were not helpful) and walk. Walking is not
a problem. There are some interesting neighborhoods but I wouldn't
want to walk alone after dark through them.
The exterior of
this building could appear as a concrete fortress, if not for the
colorful paint accents, palm trees, and large flower pots.
Once inside, the
exhibits are generous in quantity and size, and the quality is world
class. Focused on the works of Latin American artists, some pieces
offer a clearly cultural emphasis so different from, yet similar to
the messages and moods of Southern California, where localized Latin
American Art is blooming into a huge, popular body of works. MOLAA in Long
Beach has undergone renovations and is popular for events and
weddings. There is no flash photography allowed in the galleries.
