The koi pond at Fashion
Island is a delight for all ages, but especially children. Thank
goodness the caretakers keep it so clean. Otherwise moms &
kids may kill the fish with kindness.
Fish in koi ponds get whopping big in California. I'll never forget the first
pond my sister had, and the fish she named. They were huge, and they came up and
nibbled out of her fingers when she talked to them and fed them each day. She
projected into those fish all the love she felt as a caregiver. While her
love was metered, the public koi ponds where people have food risk the health of
the fish when people throw scraps into the water.
Fashion
Island outdoor mall, a presence on the Newport Beach landscape for
decades, has a beautiful carousel for kids, outdoor splash fountains
and a large koi pond with stepping stones allowing adults and
children to feel they are dancing above water.
The fish as the Fashion Island
koi pond are incredibly large and seem healthy. But the main
objection we have is parents who throw food into the pond and think
they are teaching their kids a good deed. That aside, it's fun
watching children and adults study these fast moving fish with
bright speckled designs of white, black and orange. Because it
seldom freezes in Newport Beach, koi ponds and fish are easy to
maintain. The primary predator of these animals are the large ocean
birds such as terns and pelicans. Those birds don't typically enter
the well-lit and heavily trafficked courtyards of the shopping mall,
so the fish seem to have a pretty good life, all in all
When you visit Southern
California on vacation, one of the favorite beaches near Disneyland
is Newport Beach. The airport is just minutes away and Fashion
Island is not only made for adult shopping, but for kids play. Below
is a map to one of the most popular hotels, The Island Hotel. You
can walk over to the shopping mall from this luxury property.
