Winner takes all in the US Open of
Surfing Competition photo. This event is held annually in Huntington
Beach.
Huntington Beach, Cali, U.S. Open
of Surfing and Beach Games―You
don't have to know anything about surfing to enjoy the enthusiasm at
this annual Orange County beach event that for surfers, is but one stop
in the journey to win big bucks as they travel around the globe,
challenging themselves and their surfboards to global waves.
The surfing event is part of a
system of World Qualifying events. Some have questioned the validity in
giving Huntington Beach a 6 star (top) ranking as a competition. It's
number of stars has very little to do with quality and height of waves
in recent years, but more to do with the fanfare. Sponsorship and great
promotion have transformed an ordinary surfing event into 10 days of
competitions, games, bands, giveaways, honor ceremonies and more.
The final Sunday heightens to one
last round determining the top winner for the cash prize in this
particular surfing competition. The winner is usually determined between
noon and 2:30 p.m. on this special day, in which you'll find standing
space only on the Huntington Beach Pier, one of the best vantage points
to see the last rounds of surfing. On the ground at the beach
south of the pier it is a madhouse of people crowding to see the winner
run out of the water.
The rest of the final day winds
down with bmx bike demos, skateboarding in a big bowl built on the beach
for the event, and thousands upon thousands of people searching for some
excitement among the booths that giveaway posters and a variety of
items.
