Huntington Beach Surfing Museum
is the first to launch the summer with its Surfin' Sundays. Pictured
above are Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean (singer at left mic) and Dick Dale
(singer at right mic with black, sleeveless t-shirt).
Gotta sing surf? Well the music of
surf isn't usually sung, but on the launch of the Surfing Sundays
Summer Concerts, the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum
sometimes breaks from tradition. Dean Torrence (Jan & Dean, and Dick
Dale, famous guitarist who travels the globe in live concert
performances, both joined the featured band at the International Surfing
Museum for some good vibrations.
Put together by booking agent
extraordinaire, Linda Miller, an
extended concert series usually includes well known surf bands such Surftones,
Insect Surfers, The Eliminators, Outer Wave, Torquays, The Nocturnes and
many more.
What's amazing about Huntington
Beach's best kept secret (it's free summer surfing band concerts), is
that the performers actually come to the beach for the honor of performing to an audience that digs the sounds of an electric
guitar and a solid drum beat and music that floats through the beach breeze
in flawless melody.
In existence for around 10 years,
the summer surfing concerts are more than a joy for the beach crowd that
gathers 'round to hear the sounds and feel the good vibrations. The
event actually draws musicians together. Many haven't performed with
each other for up to 10, 20, 30 or 40 years. Now that's a very long
time! One example is
Eddie and the Showman, appearing in a previous concert.
But you wouldn't know it when you
hear them perform, because most have never given up their passion for
surfing music. The actually a booked and perform around the globe as a
resurgence of this popular music has brought back a sound that some may
or may not relate to surfing.
For a vacation or local Sunday
drive, head over to Huntington Beach California for "The Kind" music,
then grab "The Kind" burger at TK Burgers on Pacific Coast Highway, a
surfers' favorite for decades since it was named "The Kind."

Ave., Huntington Beach, CA Time: 1 p.m. Not every Sunday,
