The Grand Marshall of the Sunset Beach holiday parade is a
self appointed position. If you don't want the job, don't put
the sign on your cart.
There's an annual parade in
Sunset Beach attended by a handful of happy people celebrating the
the winter holidays. One participant in a recent annual parade
declared himself or herself the Grand Marshall. Shown in the picture
above are folks discussing this self appointed position.
The NO Parade is an annual
event that includes a fire truck, usually some bicycles, a few cars
and thatt's it. If you watch the parade, you don't want to blink
because you might miss it. It might just as well be called a
drive up and down Pacific Street in Sunset Beach. It is
so small, in fact, we have to wonder what would happen if no one
showed up.
The greenbelt where it is held
lacks commerce and is primarily residential. Running parallel to the
road, however, there's much happening on a Saturday before Christmas
in Sunset Beach. The
restaurants and clubs with live music range from
Mother's Bar, Irish Mist, Brix, J. King Neptune's, Captain
Jack's, Sam's Seafood,
Harbor House Cafe, Woody's Diner, Taco Surf, Roman Cucina and
half a dozen more.
While the NO Parade brings out
mostly residents to participate, a Woody car club and anyone else
who wishes to watch or join in is welcome. There's one hotel, the
Ramada Ocean
View Limited, that sits at the start of the parade route. From
your hotel room balcony you may be able to see the event but don't
blink, or you'll easily miss it.
