Laguna Beach Arts Studio is a fine
arts gallery located in the historic Pottery Shack building.
Representing the works of top artists, owners John and Rebecca Barber
are especially proud to include glass object d'art, many from artisans
that have been groomed in years of study under the master glass artist
himself. John Barber has worked over 30 years creating original glass
art that has brought joy to lives of those who purchase his items.
Shown above is Rebecca Barber in
the Studio Arts Gallery. Fulfilling a dream, the Barbers have spent
decades living and working in Laguna Beach. Barber's work has been shown
not only in the local annual festivals featuring premier juried works,
but has sold his items around the globe. It took time and patience to
find the gallery space that the Barbers so dearly sought. And when the
Pottery Shack opened up for new businesses after many years operating as
a pottery barn-style business, then closing permanently, the Barbers
were on a list of eager tenants ready to begin representing Laguna Beach
talents in the finest light.
There are no nicer people, nor
more beautiful glass and art items that offer shining examples of the
people that make up Laguna Beach. Today John Barber still creates glass
art in a Laguna Beach studio not far from the gallery, and he continues
to mentor and train students, helping them to learn the craft and
hopefully one day become masters, as he has become.
When we visited the gallery, a
neat feature that locals especially enjoyed was a rotating table top
place setting display featuring collector plates and glasses. Not only
are these sets valuable for those seeking new ideas in home decor, the
Barbers sell many of the items as wedding, birthday or anniversary
gifts. And anyone who is lucky enough to receive them has never returned
them. That's how beautiful they are!
If you're out for a day of
shopping and dining, pay attention next door at the Sapphire Laguna
restaurant. While dining you may catch glimpse of lovely glass pieces
that adorn the restaurant, on loan from the gallery next door--Studio
Arts Gallery.
