Shorebreak Hotel
500 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach, CA

Shorebreak Hotel, the brand new hotel in Huntington Beach, is the closest hotel to the Huntington Beach Pier. And it offers views of the beaches that gained much attention when branded as "Surf City USA" several years ago. With views of the beach and Huntington Beach Pier, visitors can now stay in boutique accommodations in a trendy new building complex close to the sand, and watch not only the U.S. Open of Surfing from an ocean facing room, but also the amazing Pacific sunsets.  Launched the last week in April 2009, this anticipated anchor to The Strand development brings more accommodation options to the pier and beaches of Huntington Beach.

For local HB residents and tourists, it is a place to add to their arsenal of beach hotels, totaling five.  Huntington Beach ocean view hotels will now number five in the downtown Huntington Beach region, but this new hotel is the  second situated in the zone, and is located on the site of a new shopping and dining complex all in one building.  a block or two of shopping and nightlife.  While the Hyatt and Hilton are luxury resorts located just blocks from the pier, the Shorebreak is a smaller, boutique hotel with some rooms facing the pier, many facing the ocean, and others facing what is called a courtyard. Courtyard rooms cost a bit less but offer the same great location.

When staying at the hotel, you can shop for youth and contemporary clothes, or dine at several restaurants such as RaSushi, which has quickly become a favorite for sushi fans. Active, Forever 21, Rip Curl, and CVS Pharmacy are some of the stores you'll find downstairs from the 2nd and third story hotel rooms.

Staying downtown means that you will be able to walk to the nightlife, which is mostly youthful (21+) bars and clubs where rock bands play after dark. There's usually little or no cover charge, and the entertainment is very good. For more sedate entertainment, head down to the Hyatt Lounge most weekends and check out the Red Chair Lounge for some smooth jazz and boutique wines.

When you stay at the Shorebreak you are buying the beach access and ocean views basically. With the Huntington Beach Pier and beaches literally just steps from the hotel, you will discover the location is ideal. Special events throughout the summer months and fall  provide things to see and do, and many of them are free! In fact, we'll be curious to see if you can hear the free Pier Plaza summer concerts hosted by the City of Huntington Beach from your hotel room or suite.

The down side to the direct ocean view facing rooms seen in the photo above is that you will have traffic below the room. But with double paned sliding doors, and a brand new room with top decor, you're going to love it.

For those who know and have stayed at the Hyatt Huntington Beach Resort, the Shorebreak Hotel is a different game altogether. Why? The Hyatt is a luxury resort. The Shorebreak isn't. It is a hotel lacking the amenities such as swimming pools, cabanas, etc.

The five hotels in downtown Huntington Beach we can recommend are Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort (4 Diamond), Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa (4 Diamond), Shorebreak Hotel (4 Diamond), Best Western Huntington Beach Inn (2 Diamond), and Surf & Sand (2 Diamond).

There's a surfer hotel north of the Shorebreak on Pacific Coast Highway, and south of the Best Western Huntington Beach Inn.  I personally would not stay there myself. The last time I dropped by, the managers peered from behind a little door, barely speaking English, and seemed very secretive. I asked to see a room and they man said, "NO". "Is this a hotel?" I asked. The answer was indiscernible, but something to the effect of asking me why I wanted to see a room. The answer: I could be a potential guest. I was told to come back later. I decided to not come back at all.
