and discusses the history of the center, volunteer hours
that have been donated, projects, plans, and a request
for help from those interested in volunteering.
Spring Festival is an
annual celebration of this urban. 18-acre forest in
Huntington Beach California's Central Park. Location:
17829 Golden West Street, Huntington Beach, CA. Call:
(714) 842-4772.
Shipley
Nature Center Spring Festival brought together
an esteemed group of Huntington Beach citizens.
In addition to Kay Goddard, president of the
Friends of Shipley Nature Center (FSNC)
officiating the festival launch and activities,
Norma Brandel Gibbs, a former mayor who was
instrumental in creating policies that set aside
land for parks in Huntington Beach, and who has
a park named after her; Joe Carchio, Huntington
Beach City Council member; and Jean Nagy,
president of the Huntington Beach Tree Society
and board member of FSNC, all take pride in the
city's parks, and especially the 18 acre parcel
of land that was previously closed due to
disrepair.
Shipley
has come a long way, thanks to these community
involved volunteers who work tirelessly and for
free to make Huntington Beach an enjoyable,
healthy place to live and visit.
