Huntington Beach
Central Park Shipley Nature Center features native
gardens and educational events. A Native American house above
we errantly called a tipi is actually a kicha or hut.
Juana
Mueller discusses the kicha in a video you might
enjoy.
A Journey Back in
Time
The
Friends of Shipley Nature Center presented A Journey
Back in Time. Guests learned about the heritage of the Native
Americans who lived in this area and about the early
days of Huntington Beach. Jacque Nunez a tribal
descendant of the Acjachemen Nation told about
the Native Americans who inhabited this area, their
customs and culture. Jacque is a master storyteller and
prides herself on preserving and passing her culture
along through the oral Native American tradition of
storytelling. Jerry Person, Huntington Beach City
Historian and long time resident, reminisced about
the early days of Huntington Beach, Central Park and
Shipley Nature Center.
Shipley Nature Center
