Santa plays guitar in the Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights home
decorating contest held each Christmas in Huntington Beach, Calif.
This is not rocket science, in Huntington
Beach where Boeing Company builds the space station. This
is pure rock, as in Santa playing a guitar in his
flip flop sandals and Hawaiian
shirt.
The scenes are all too familiar for beach people
accustomed to the island lifetstyle
and Hawaiian influence that reaches
the shores of mainland USA in sunny,
Southern California. Each year one
of the larger (extended run)
Christmas events, the Cruise of
Lights, creates new themes
surrounding music and lifestyle, and
it also creates new challenges for
creative types who seek to entertain
the public with their lighted home
displays.
The Santa in the picture above is delightfully
tropical, colorful and fun for the
holiday crowds that pass by several
times nightly on Cruise of Lights
boats to look at the houses and
mansions. For a fee of less than
$15, guests are taking into a
fantasy waterworld of lights and
reflections. The cruise breezes down
the main channels of Huntington
Harbour for a narrated tour of the
home decor and notes of interest.
Tropical themes are some of the most popular as
guests typically snuggle up on a
55-degree night and cruise around
the channels of several manmade
islands that comprise Huntington
Harbour. Proceeds from ticket sales
to the event benefit youth programs.
