The
number one Beach in San Francisco and Best Beach
is Ocean Beach.
Accessible and easy on the spirit, Ocean Beach (not the famed
Ocean Beach or OB in San Diego) is our favorite San Francisco
beach. Being the biggest beach in the city, Ocean Beach spans
the entire west side of San Francisco. Stunning views of the
Pacific Ocean on a clear day make for great photos for your
vacation, too. With five miles of sumptuous sand, there's lots
going on. Surfers, kite surfing, dog-friendly in some locations,
and a mix of bathing suits and suits as people escape work, make
for a unique city beach and great place to escape. Enjoy the
outstanding views of Ocean Beach where tourists love to eat at
the Cliff House Restaurant, a landmark in San Francisco's tour
book.
Ocean Beach is approx. four
to five miles long, spanning or extending between Cliff House to
the San Francisco Zoo. Surfing and fishing are popular here, and
you may even see someone on horseback on the beach south of
Golden Gate Park. Whatt's amazing about this beach and what bay
area beaches prove is that a beach isn't just about swimming.
This beach can gets crowded on weekends, yet no one swims
in the water! Why? Rip tides, currents and a generally unsafe
ocean terrain that makes for danger.
Famous San Francisco
beach bonfires are allowed on a portion of the beach that
runs between Lincoln Way & Fulton. The Ocean Beach
Esplanade, a paved walkway, will take you all the way to
Fort Funston.
Note: If Southern
California's Newport Beach provided such detailed and specific
instructions for bonfires as are specified at Ocean Beach in San
Francisco, it would serve to preserve the bonfire amenities
tourists enjoy.
