San
Francisco--Are you ready for a San
Francisco Beach Vacation? We are. The beaches are quite cool compared to the
Southern California beaches, but on a beautiful summer day, it's pure heaven to
be on a beach with the glorious city by the bay as your view. Toasty summer days
average around 72 -75 degrees, but you can be there and find o a rare 90 degree
heat wave.
While the city and its foods, architecture, tourist
attractions, museums and parks are all great, why not get out and visit the
beach like locals doo? It offers a mellow and relaxing diversion from the tourist
trap tours, and allows you to understand the aspects of the bay that make people
love it even more.
The the top five beaches in San Francisco
are awesome and offer great vacations for those who love our
California beaches.
When out exploring, don't forget to check out the
San Francisco beach bonfire
spots, too! They are part of the wonderful California beach vacation in San
Francisco.
San Francisco beaches offer a range of
diversity in city views, in size and geographic settings. They also range in
activities from pet friendly beach to some nude bathing at clothing
optional Baker Beach. Beaches aren't always considered the first stop on a SF
vacation. They often come in last in a tourist's mind, in fact. It's that darned
old fog that locals love, but tourists find annoying when trying to plan the San
Francisco Beach Vacation, so with that in mind, have other back-up plans--and
bring a jacket in case its cold. The rule of thumb at California beaches is
"dress in layers".
Number One Beach in San Francisco and Best Beach is Ocean Beach. Accessible and easy on the spirit,
Ocean Beach (not the famed Ocean Beach or OB in San Diego) is our favorite San
Francisco beach. Being the biggest beach in the city, Ocean Beach spans
the entire west side of San Francisco. Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean on a
clear day make for great photos for your vacation, too. With five miles of
sumptuous sand, there's lots going on. Surfers, kite surfing, dog-friendly
in some locations, and a mix of bathing suits and suits as people escape work,
make for a unique city beach and great place to escape.
Number Two Beach in San Francisco is Baker Beach. California nude beaches are
hard to come by, but San Francisco, known for its open-minded ways, does have a
beach where you can have your day in the sun without bikini tan lines. That
beach would be Baker. Head for the west side of the Golden Gate Bridge to
find Baker Beach, which offers stunning water views framing the bridge and other
attractions. Frisbees, volleyballs, and sunbathing all are fair game at
beautiful, popular Baker Beach. Visit it to see what we mean.
Number Three Best Beach in San Francisco is East Beach, or China Beach, named
for Chinese fishermen. Family friendly, East Beach is mellow, shallow and
ideal for kids. Go have a picnic or fly a kite at East Beach, the perfect beach
vacation for out-of-towners. Exploratorium rounds out a perfect kids'
vacation after you let the the kids build sandcastles and allow their
imaginations to run wild at East Beach. Located in Pacific Heights, you'll find
it on the the Bay Side of Golden Gate Bridge.
Number Four Best Beach is Aquatic Park in the heart of the city. Beach vacations
combine the best of both of world's with Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli
Square nearby. There are steps you can sit on and enjoy a reflective
moment during your sight-seeing, which can become a bit overwhelming with so
much to see and do. Set in a bay, the wading and gentle waves are perfect for
those afraid of the ocean's force that actually claims a few lives annually when
unsuspecting tourists wander out on jetties. Wheel chair access makes this a
great beach for all to enjoy. Hyde Street Pier and the Maritime Museum are some
of the local attractions next to this great spot.
Number Five Beach is Stinson Beach – It takes a car and a drive through
residential roads to access beautiful Stinson Beach outside the city in Marin
County. Muir Woods offers the shady, setting for the drive which ends at parking
and a walk to the sand shores of a beach that gets you out of the city and into
the rest of the northern coast worth exploring. Keep heading north for Bodega
Bay, Sonoma Coast, Mendocino and the giant redwood forests beyond.
Love the San Francisco Beaches, but also visit the rest of the
coast to get the most out of your beach trip.
for picnicking and
swimming. |
