Point Dume is located in Zuma Beach
County Park in Los Angeles County, and is not only the spot
tourists gravitate to, but also offers a respite for locals. As
the largest beach & park in L.A. County, don't be surprised to
gaze along the sands of this wide-open beach and get that
feeling of deja vu. Maybe you haven't been here before, but you
probably have seen the beach. There are over
450 beaches in
California, and this one is a must-see for your beach
vacation.
And the mystery as to why you know
Point Dume is that it's one of the most active filming and
on-location beaches in California. Within the zone for shoots
and filming, Point Dume offers addtitional fun to just a typical
day in the sand.
As you cruise along Pacific Coast
Highway north of Malibu and the
Getty Villa, turn into beach parking, where you'll pay a
fee of under $10, or hope for a free spot across the highway.
This is an extremely busy area, so don't count on getting
something free on a weekend, unless you go really early.
Westward Beach is located at the
southern end of Zuma. Another popular beach to the south that's
cheaper to access on foot is
Paradise Cove. This
is a great place to go for a meal, but if you don't dine at the
private beach, the parking it out of site, costing around $20 or
so at last count.
Volleyball, surfing, sunbathing,
hiking, and whale watching are all great activities to get you
out exploring and seeing the other side of life in L.A. Remember
that il, kind of.
