California Poinsettias >
next
If you've seen one poinsettia,
you've seen them all in Newport
Beach. Correct? No!
The photo above shows a glazed,
richly painted poinsettia that
decorates a lantern sitting in front
of an island home on Balboa Island
in Newport Beach. Overlooking
the Newport Bay, this house and most
others facing the bay are decked to
the nines for the Christmas holiday.
They overlook one of the oldest,
largest and most lavish Christmas
boat parades on the West Coast of
the USA.
But what does all this have to do
with poinsettias, you ask?
Poinsettias are grown by the
hundreds of thousands in California,
the top grower of poinsettias in the
US. While poinsettias are also grown
in greenhouses around the United
States, California maintains the
perfect climate for maximum growth.
In Newport Beach's Balboa, you'll
see the poinsettia is one of the
Christmas holiday favorites for
decorations, potted plants along the
shopping district at Marine Avenue,
and thrives in the outdoors as well
as inside. To purchase poinsettia
artificial decorations, Rodgers
Gardens on Pacific Coast Highway in
Newport Beach, and many of the
boutiques along Marine Avenue offer
a variety of artificial designs.
