| Pillar Point Harbor in
Half Moon Bay is as exciting as the rest of the region,
especially for Southern Californians who are so tired of the
millions of people that surround them, and feel like there's no
place to get away.
Fresh-caught fish is sold
off-the-boat directly to the public at Pillar Point Harbor,
seven days a week. Call the fishfone (650) 726-8724 for updates.
Well Half Moon Bay is one
spot you can escape to guilt free. Silicon Valley Internet
companies Google and Yahoo host corporate meetings here (or at
least they did), and all we could say was, wow! How lucky you
are to work and play in Half Moon Bay.
Pillar Point Harbor has a
wharf that seems always to be bustling during the daylight hours
with fisherman. Great fishing is just one activity this
beach and bay is recognized for. Located along the Monterey Bay
National Marine Sanctuary, not only is the dolphin and
whale watching great, but also the surfing The next beach over,
Mavericks, is where the Big Wave surf competition is hosted
almost annually. (There was no contest in 2007, due to lack of
the big waves).
Pillar Point is north of
Miramar and El Granada beaches. Locals prefer those spots
for surfing, sunbathing and socializing. Pillar Point is
where you launch or head to sea from your boat docked in the
harbor. The San Mateo County invested in breakwaters,
berthing and launching for commercial fishermen.
